Cebu City Apartment Fire Results in Significant Property Loss

An apartment fire in Cebu City’s Barangay Lahug on Saturday morning, September 7, resulted in the destruction of properties valued at least P1.2 million.

Senior Fire Officer 2 (SFO2) Wendell Villanueva, serving as the information officer for the Cebu City Fire Station (CCFS), indicated that the blaze might have been sparked by faulty electrical wiring. According to a report by the CCFS, the fire ignited around 8:18 a.m., reaching the first alarm status by 8:23 a.m., and was extinguished by 8:42 a.m.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident that took place in an apartment owned by Ana Ramirez. The dwelling housed a family of 17 individuals.

Meanwhile, CCFS is also investigating another fire that occurred on the evening of September 6, involving five mini fuel tankers in Barangay Carreta. Firefighters received the alarm around 11:25 p.m. and managed to extinguish the blaze by 11:49 p.m., but not before it caused P200,000 in property damage. 24-year-old Vincent Enon sustained second-degree burns and is currently being treated at a hospital.

The sequence of events underscores the urgent need for rigorous fire safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities are keenly examining the causes in both cases to mitigate future risks.

The recent spate of fires in Cebu City highlights the critical importance of addressing potential electrical hazards and implementing strict fire safety protocols.
