Exciting news for Airtel premium customers: major perks coming your way!
- Airtel is teaming up with Apple to offer free Apple TV+ to postpaid and broadband users.
- Wynk Music is shutting down, but don’t worry—Apple Music offers are on the way.
- Airtel premium users can enjoy Apple services at no extra cost later this year.
- This move aims to broaden Apple’s reach in India’s predominantly Android market.
Apple is joining forces with Airtel to provide exclusive offers for its music streaming service. This exciting partnership will bring Apple TV+ to Airtel’s premium customers without any additional charges.
With Wynk Music closing its doors, Airtel customers who subscribe to premium broadband and postpaid services will get Apple TV+ as part of their plan. According to Airtel, these changes will roll out later this year.
Apple usually charges about $1.20 per month for Apple TV+ and Apple Music in India. This collaboration with Airtel may lower Apple’s average revenue in India but aims to expand its user base in a market where over 90% of smartphones run on Android.
Apple Music and Apple TV+ are available on Android, making this deal even sweeter for users. Oliver Schusser, Apple’s VP, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We are thrilled that Airtel customers in India will soon be able to enjoy all of the incredible content on Apple TV+ and Apple Music.”
Airtel’s spokesperson mentioned Wynk Music employees would be reassigned within Airtel’s business. Wynk was not declining in popularity, but its growth had slowed. Its market share in downloads was about 8% this year, up from 5% in 2018.
Despite Wynk’s modest growth, international players like Spotify and Apple Music have been outperforming Indian music streaming apps. Even major services like Gaana have faced struggles, selling for far less than their invested capital.
Airtel and its competitor Jio are both enhancing their content and service bundles tied to telecom plans to attract high-value customers. They offer various packages that include multiple streaming platforms, education, and health services.
This partnership between Airtel and Apple promises to enrich the streaming experience for many Indian users.
